Henna Art

Over five thousand years ago a type of body art came into existence. This application was known as henna art and was used all over the entire Middle East, especially in the countries of India and Africa. There were many reasons why the henna art was practiced. Brides painted it on themselves right before they got married; however, the henna art was also placed on the dead in the countries where mummification took place. In fact, Queen Mumtaz was and Indian queen who was the first royal individual in India ever to wear the henna art. Since those thousands of years ago and since Queen Mumtaz set an example for the royal party in India, the henna art has been practices and refined throughout the ages in many parts of the world.

Where does Henna Art come from?

Even though many people continue to apply henna art to their bodies and even their hair, there are thousands of those same people who have no idea what the henna art actually is. But henna actually comes from a plant that was found long ago. This plant, also known as Lawsonia inermis, is ground up into a powder form and then made into a paste so that it can easily be decorated and drawn on the body as henna art. As mentioned, India and the Middle East were the originating countries for the henna art and the plant was originally found in those countries as well.

How is Henna Art used?

There are many applications for the use of henna art, but the most popular ways to use henna today simply is in the form of a simple henna art tattoo. Many individuals in the United States and abroad choose to get henna art painted on their bodies so that they'll have an art form that resembles a less-permanent tattoo. Aside from adorning the body, there are several other ways that the henna art is used when it's on the body. In many other Eastern cultures, henna art is painted on the body for the purpose of religious ceremonies and rituals. Many of the henna art applications are painted on the body because of big celebrations, but somber occasions like a funeral are also occasions where henna art is very popular. In Western societies, however, like the United States, henna art is simply used as a hobby and to get creative with the tattoo designs that are created from it.

Now that you know a little bit of henna art history, chances are that you will have a deeper appreciation for it the next time you are surrounded by it at a popular carnival, circus, or even amusement park. There are many places where you can choose to have the henna art designed on your body and many people enjoy the henna art. This popular form of henna art will always be a fun and exciting choice for individuals who know about and have an appreciation for how henna art came to be!
